Death, destruction, mayhem, and music. Those are the things most associated with the band Dethklok. Dethklok is the subject of an ancient Mesopotamian prophecy about the apocalypse, which has worried the government enough to create an organization, called The Tribunal, to prevent the oncoming apocalypse. Dethklok is good at two things: playing Death Metal, and destroying everything. Only the metal is intentional, as playing music is the only real skill they have. Dethklok is basically a bunch of overgrown children. They can’t even run their own lives with success. This is why Charles Foster Ofdensen is hired; to manage the business end of things and keep their daily lives in order. Behind the scenes he seems to be manipulating events towards the apocalypse. Whether this is the case or not is yet to be seen….Welcome to Metalocalypse: Season III, which is now available on Blu-ray!
Metalocalypse: Season III: The Dead Man chronicles the even further comic misadventures of the band Dethklok. In this season, we get to see how they handle life without their manager Charles Foster Ofdensen; how well they handle money and business decisions without his guiding hand. We see them go back to their roots. We see them celebrate Christmas, or try to. We see how they deal with relationships… again. We see them search for their identity, And in the season finale, we see the machinations of each of the Tribunal, and their manager, start to form into something tangible.
Episode Selections:
“Dethhealth”: Deathklok nearly gets crushed by the head of the Sphinx and this freaks them out, leading to batteries of medical tests. Murderface has a crisis of self after seeing the doctor. Nathan is afraid of dentists. There is a funny scene in Toki’s head that is a music video for his cat.
“Deathzazz”: Toki decides to help Doktor Rockso get back on his feet, with the entire vacation fund of the band. With this, the rest of Dethklok decides to step in and help. Look out for every scene with Doktor Rockso’s band Zazz Blammymatazz, an absolutely perfect clown parody of Van Halen.
“Doublebookedklok”: This is where the season comes to a head. We find out what the Tribunal has been up to. We see what Charles Foster Ofdensen, Dethklok’s manager was doing while he was dead (which is where we get the name of the season). All as the subplot to an episode where Dethklok has placed the world in danger of nuclear war, by double booking themselves for concerts in Israel and Syria ON THE SAME DAY.
Special Features:
“Places” with FaceBones. FaceBones quickly lists off and shows us all of the locations from the series so far, with appropriate smarmy comments.

Overall:
Metalocalypse: Season III: The Dead Man is as funny as the show ever is, and a little bit more. With the increase to 30 minutes for each episode, the comedy has increased. The plot has become more coherent within each episode and overall. With all of that, everything has gotten better. The new format has proven that the series has staying power, and good writers. Every moment of the show is still either a tribute to metal, or has a reference to the history of metal. Metalocalypse is as good as it always was. The picture is amazing, the sound is crystal clear, and the comedy is funny as all get-out. This is a show that will last until metal is no longer listened to.
