High Tension tells of Marie (Cecile De France – Hereafter) traveling to college friend Alexia (Maiwenn [Le Besco] – The Fifth Element) home to study for their upcoming tests. There we meet Alexia’s’ mother (Oana Pellea – Fire and Ice), father (Andrei Finti – Shapeshifter), and little brother Tom (Marco Claudiu Pascu – debut). The family is happy to see Alexia and pleased to meet Marie, and everyone settles in to their surroundings. A mysterious man (Phillipe Nahon – Brotherhood of the Wolf) arrives in the middle of the night with evil on his mind. Blood is shed and Alexis is kidnapped, leaving Marie to save the day.
High Tension is an action thriller guaranteed to draw you into the story. The acting is excellent with an attention to detail that adds to the tension. At one point the stranger is looking for Marie and when she hides she not only finds a secure place, but makes the bed, wipes the sink, and hides her luggage. The only drawback is that the plot twist isn’t as seamless as it could have been, but the leap isn’t such as hard as you may think.

The French action/thriller/horror High Tension (Haute tension) is well worth the watch. The movie is addicting and easily pulls you in to the story with good acting, and a unique twist. The fact that the twist is somewhat awkward doesn’t detract much from the overall film. The transition to Blu-ray is a no brainer, and the enhanced audio and video make the movie even more compelling.
