Old School American Horror Panel: Hatchet 2
Adam Green, Tom Holland, Danielle Harris, R. A. Milaloff, Perry Shen
This panel for the anticipated sequel Hatchet 2 was comprised of some of Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th), R.A. Mihailoff (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Danielle Harris (Rob Zombie’s Halloween), Rileah Vanderbilt (Hatchet), Tom Holland (The Stand), Perry Shen (Hatchet), and writer/director Adam Green. The discussion portion centered on the movie roles that were written with the specific actors in mind. Perry Shen is the only returning actor, and is playing his previous character's twin brother. He tells how if there is another sequel he has laid the groundwork to appear in that one as well. As he is being chased through the swamp he pulls out his cell phone and calls another brother to tell him their brother is dead and he thinks he’s next. I don’t know if it’s true, but it’s a great story.
Adam talked about his battles with the MPAA to get an “R” rating, and announced that an un-named theater chain has agreed to release Hatchet 2 without a rating. Hatchet 2 will be the first movie to be released through a major chain without an MPAA rating.
The trailer for Hatchet 2 was shown, as well as several clips from the movie. I have to say that this flick is beautiful. The colors are full and vibrant, and deaths are spectacular and graphic. The people on this panel and in the movie are all friends that will do pretty much anything for each other, including putting everything into making the best slasher movie they can.
There were a couple of small spoilers that I won’t divulge, but the one bit of information I will leave you with is this. In the first Hatchet eight people died. In Hatchet 2 it’s reported that seventeen people will fall victim to Victor Crowley. Look for Hatchet 2 to hit theaters in October 2010. I’ll see you at the box office.
