Blu-ray Review: Undisputed III: Redemption

Boxing, mixed martial arts, prison and Russians. It must be another installment oft he Undisputed series. The series originally started out with Wesley Snipes and Ving Rhames basically retelling the story of Mike Tyson and Desiree Washington from the time when Tyson was imprisoned. Undisputed III: Redemption follows prisoner/fighter Uri Boyka from Undisputed II through an international tournament of prison fighters.

This film starts out with the lead as a nobody, mopping floors keeping a low profile after his leg was broken in the previous movie. This is told
to us through a flashback early on in the film. Boyka trains himself to overcome the pain while fighting and defeats the prison champion to earn his spot in the tournament in order to gain his freedom. As the tournament goes on, Boyka starts to become friends with the American challenger in the tournament with the ridiculous name of Turbo. The film stars Scott Adkins, Weapon XI from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, so if you enjoyed that performance then this might be up your alley.

Special Features:

This film had no special features, but it does come with a digital copy on the second disc. It might have been fun to see some of the deleted scenes or even a behind-the-scenes featurette, but seeing as it’s a Direct-to-DVD sequel, it probably wasn't high on the priority list. The menu for this film doesn’t even give options for chapter searching – you can only play the movie or change the language. The Blu-ray version is in 1080p and 5.1 Digital DTS audio.

Overview:
Undisputed III: Redemption is basically an excuse to film some cool fight sequences. The acting was a bit wooden, and seeing as this takes place in Russia, there are a wide variety of accents of greatly varying quality. The movie was much more fun than I expected, and I did enjoy viewing it. If you have a group of friends who like boxing, MMA or even just an action film where people get the crap beaten out of them, then this movie is one to get them together for – grab a pizza, a few beers, sit back and relax.

ComicsOnline gives Undisputed III: Redemption 3.5 random accents out of 5.
