March 10, 2010 – New York, N.Y. – Mattel, Inc, Lionsgate, and AMC have announced the release of a four figure collection of Barbie based on the popular Mad Men series, to be available to the public July 2010. The dolls are designed by Barbie designer Robert Best, and are based on Mad Men characters Don Draper, wife Betty Draper, partner Roger Sterling, and office manager Joan Holloway. Today's announcement marks the first licensed doll line in the Barbie Fashion Model Collection, a signature silkstone collection known for featuring couture quality fashion figures and accessories.
The Mad Men Barbie Collector set embodies the Mad Men series couture fashions and accessories, and the 1960’s style and aesthetic. Produced by Lionsgate and airing on AMC, the series has made history with multiple Emmy and Golden Globe awards, with the stories of the lives of the men and women in 1960’ Madison Avenue advertising.
Silkstone, a material that resembles the qualities of porcelain, is used to sculpt each doll, which are wearing the iconic fashions from the series, and accompanied by the accessories appropriate to their characters. Don Draper is clothed in his trademark polished redlined suit with fedora, overcoat and briefcase. Betty’s classic look is detailed down to her faux pearls and pumps. Joan Holloway is wearing a purple skirt to go with her perfectly styled hair and her signature pen necklace. And partner Roger Sterling is sporting a monogrammed shirt.
Mad Men Season Three arrives in stores on March 23, 2010 and each DVD set will contain one of four character sketches of the collector dolls. Mad Men Season Three contains all thirteen episodes as well as hours of special features including extensive commentaries, and featurettes that chronicle historical events from 1963.
The Barbie Fashion Model Collection Mad Men Barbie dolls will be available at BarbieCollector.com, amctv.com and select retailers, and have a suggested retail price of $74.95. Look for this collection in July 2010 and watch for Mad Men Season Four this summer.
