The battle between Foxy the Silver Fox and Luffy (with an afro) rages on. As the aces in Foxy’s sleeve run out, he is forced to rely solely on his demon fruit powers and with the ability to slow down his opponents, Luffy can’t even get an attack in. When defeat is imminent, Luffy pulls out his own ace, not from his sleeve but from his afro. Well, earlier, when Luffy is cornered in a room with mirrors for walls, he learns that Foxy’s “slow slow beam” can be reflected off of mirrors. When Luffy breaks the mirror wall, some sticks in his afro. When the time comes, Luffy pulls the mirror shard out of his afro and reflects Foxy’s “slow slow beam” back at him. with Foxy moving so slowly that he is virtually standing still. So, Luffy gives Foxy the beating of a lifetime and with that, the battle is over. The straw hat crew has won the third of the 3 Coin Games. Now they can choose one of the Foxy Pirates to join their crew.
The Straw Hat crew is on their way to get the Merry-Go repaired, but they aren’t just going anywhere. They are taking the Merry-Go to Water Seven, the best place to get a ship made or fixed. Also, there is one man who is better at fixing ships than anyone else, Mr. Iceberg. This man is not only the best shipbuilder but also the President of the Galley-La Company (which builds ships) and the mayor of Water Seven. Even though Iceberg is the mayor, he doesn’t quite mind dealing with pirates, so the Straw Hat crew is in luck. Of course, they can only hope that the Merry-Go isn’t too expensive to fix, or so they think. Sadly, according to Mr. Iceberg’s ship inspector, the Merry-Go will never sail again.
Overall
The Water Seven saga has a lot more in the story than previous arcs. The story just seems to be all over the place. The first two volumes were about the Foxy Pirates, then the Straw Hats fixing the Merry-Go ship. Now people are disappearing, there are assassin attempts, and cyborgs. Somehow this needs to tie together, and I think that the story will be much nicer when all that happens.
One of my favorite things about One Piece is that it can make fun of itself. Because One Piece has some of the strangest characters I’ve ever seen, it is nice that they can point out how they dress oddly, or that they look weird. My favorite example of this is when Luffy sees Kaku, one of Mr. Iceberg's workers, and he mistakes him for Usopp because of his long nose. Many other series have weird looking characters, but they never get noticed .
ComicsOnline gives One Piece Volumes 34 and 35 3.5 out of 5 grand adventures.
