As the world of WāqWāq is still in decline, the Kami is in the safety of the Spider's Thread (the ancient wish granting machine). Guardian Shio makes his way to the Spider's Thread, with the ex-Guardian, Leo. Shio keeps encountering Guardians, but they all seem to be no match for him.
There are only four Guardians remaining. With only one volume left, how will WāqWāq: Volume 3, Vow of the Rose set up for the final battle, and the last Guardian?
Highlights
The way Shio and his Gojin-zou (a special mech beast that synthesizes with a Guardian) grow and learn about their newfound powers is really funny. Shio has gained the powers of the plant-type Gojin-zou and the fire-type Gojin-Zou. During the battle against the water-type Gojin-zou and its Guardian, Shio stumbles upon the pros of having the plant-type. It was really funny when Shio went from losing to having the advantage, he spontaneously grew flowers on the top of his head. It was so unexpected that it was just hilarious.
The newest Gojin-zou that is revealed is really cool. At first I was a little wary about its overall strength, but it proved me wrong. Also, I was really happy to get the insight of both of the sides in the Human/Machine war that created the world of WāqWāq. The premises that the current world is based on are thought provoking. It would be really cool if a prequel series was made out of it.
Overall
I still can't get over the terribly awesome plot idea, and the unbelievable smoothness as it progresses. The battles were cool and just long enough for this short series. The art has gotten better from the previous volume, which really helped with the progression of the story. Images were clearer and easier to follow. I'm really looking forward to the next volume. The art is good, the plot is steady and interesting, and the characters are entertaining. This is a great series for someone looking for short action, adventure, and comedy.
ComicsOnline gives WāqWāq Volume 3: Vow of the Rose, 4 out of 5 "Eaten" Gojin-zou.
