Chuck Vs. The Online Reviewer – Chuck: The Complete Second Season
We've all been at that point in our lives, stuck at a dead end job, no clue where your future lies, an entire database of international secrets in your heads that everyone and their mother wants to kill you over while being protected by a hot as hell blond bombshell of a secret agent and Jayne from Firefly. Its why we all releate to Chuck Bartowski and the many many trials and tribulations he goes through within the second season of Chuck.
For those not in the know, Chuck tells the fish out of water story of a ordinary guy who works at the local Buy More and he stumbles upon something huge. A computer with all the nation's secrets in it gets downloaded into his head and thus his life is turned completely upsidedown as he enters the world of secret agents, spies and corrupt shadow organizations while trying to find a way out of this mess.
Coming off a strong first season cut short by the now legendary writers strike of '08, Chuck: The Complete Second Season doesn't miss a beat hopping right back into it all. We learn that the goverment is trying to rebuild its supercomputer called The Intersect, and when it does, Chuck believes he can finally go back to his old life. Sadly for Chuck, the reality of the situation is the only way out of this mess is with a bullet to his head since the goverment cannot have all their secrets roaming around in a civilian's noggin, a job appointed to one of Chuck's protectors, Major John Casey, to carry out once the new Intersect is fully completed and operational. Just to make things more complicated, over the course of last season Chuck has slowly fallen for his other protector who goes by the name of Sarah Walker, a gal with as many secrets as she has different shoes.
On the other side of things we have Chuck's "normal" life at the Buy More and at his home that he shares with his sister and her fiancé "Captain Awesome", the other side of the coin that Chuck tries as hard has he can to keep seperated from his super secret spy life but as he comes to find out, the two are more attached then they initally seem to be.
Season 2 of Chuck gives us more of everything fans could want, including story arcs which continue and last through several episodes. Each one brings in new reoccuring characters such as Chuck's ex girlfriend played by Jordana Brewster and the corrupt Bill Gates-esc Ted Roark portrayed by comedy legend Chevy Chase that just keep building up the mythos and fleshing out the universe that Chris Fedak and Josh Schwartz have created for Chuck.
Speaking of guest stars, this season really pulled out the stops with huge names like Bruce Boxleitner, Nicole Ritchie, Scott Bakula, Dominic Monaghan, Morgan Fairchild and more! They even went as far to cross universes with Die Hardby bringing in Reginald VelJohnson reprising his role as the ever famous cop Allen, making him the owner of the Buy More, Big Mike's cousin. Part of the fun is watching episode to episode never knowing just who is gonna show up as what as well as all the pop culture references to their past works that they bring in with them.
Another high point is the show continues its amazing usage of music in its episodes (Including the use of the anthem of geeks everywhere, Stan Bush's The Touch from the animated Transfomers movie) that Schwartz obivously brought over from his experiences working on his previous show, The OC.
