Manga Review: One Piece, Volume 26

Hmm… Please call me the sky Knight…”

Luffy said he was going to the sky, and here he is. Once in the sky you would think they would just fall down, but instead of falling the Straw Hat crew’s ship is floating, on a sea of clouds. Of course, in every sea there are sea creatures, and the ones in the sky are just as fearsome as the ones in the blue sea, but there is one difference, the bigger they are the easer they pop. Sky fish have evolved flat and balloon like so they can stay buoyant in the cloud sea, normal creatures will just sink to the bottom of the sea and fall to their deaths. Swimming isn’t the only deadly thing in the sky, shortly after the Straw Hat crew got to the sea in the sky, they were attacked. The attacker was a man that appeared to be running on the clouds, when he got to the ship he quickly defeated Sanji, Zolo, and Luffy. They all would have been killed if it wasn’t for the Sky Knight. The Sky Knight protects people from the blue sea, but this isn’t always free, the first time he saves you it is free, but every other time after that it is five million extols, which is the sky currency, and the price in blue sea currency is only 500 Berrys. The Sky Knight likes the Straw Hat crew so he said he will give the next time he saves them free also.

Hightlights

Sky Island is a very interesting place, the island is divided in to two sections, the lower, which is the white sea, and the upper, which is the island part. The people who live on the island also quite interesting, they have little wings, so they look like angles and were there is angles there is a god. The god lives is God Land, little else is known about this god, other than he definitely has the power. This god knows everything that is going  on in sky island, and can send blast of energy from the sky that can destroy anything. The people on the Island aren't the only people on sky island, there is a tribe of people called the Guerrillas. The Guerrillas live on the lower part of sky island in the white sea. The Guerrillas also have wings on there backs, it was a Guerrillas that attacked the straw hat crew when they first got to the the white sea.

Overall

I find that the Sky Island arc of One Piece is by far my favorite, so far. It is a serious story line in a nonsensical setting, kind of like dipping french fries in a milk shake, so you get some sweet and salty. This arc also puts the Straw Hat crew out of their element, because they are basically in a different world, and is an interesting change of pace. Also, this story isn’t so different that it doesn’t seem like something Luffy would do. They say that the sky is the limit, but this manga proves otherwise.
