Sarah’s Gift Guide For The Devoted Doctor Who Fan
Let's see what this season is bringing us: Torchwood season four is set to start taping next year. The season three finale of Sarah Jane Adventures just premiered. Doctor Who itself is about to switch from Tennant to Smith with the Christmas story "The End of Time". Add in the constant delicious flow of audios from Big Finish, and you can see why Whovians have reason to be excited this holiday season. So here's a guide to the top five toys, books and accessories for either yourself or the Doctor Who fan in your life, the one who sleeps in the same pajamas the Doctor wore in "The Christmas Invasion" and only eats bananas and chips and drives a car that proudly proclaims the driver's other vehicle is a TARDIS: this one is for them.
5. The Forgotten by Tony Lee, Pia Guerra, and Nick Roche
This is for the fan who loves every Doctor and had wished feverently for a multi-Doctor story of epic proportions — well, this is it. This graphic novel follows the Tenth Doctor as he mysteriously loses his memory due to an unknown force and must remember everything by going through his past, one self at a time. It all culminates in a multi-Doctor showdown with some truly evil baddies, as well as some of the coolest Who spreads I've ever seen in the comics. Any comic fan will love this single-volume escapade through the series' past and present.
4. The Journal of Impossible Things & Mini Sonic Screwdriver
You could just buy a sonic screwdriver. OR you could pick up this little set, which bundles the screwdriver with an exact replica of the Journal of Impossible Things from the Tenth Doctor's serial surrounding the Family of Blood, very detailed and very nifty. And then there is the sonic screwdriver, which lights up. You'll be hard tempted not to "sonic" anything in sight, from car locks to door knobs and whatever else looks like it needs more sonic. Will not put up shelves, though.
3. The Complete First and Second Series DVD Bundle
This is for the fan who either hasn't started the new series or came in during season three or later, who want to start the new series from the beginning but haven't found the time. They haven't any excuses now. You can now buy Eccleston and Tennant's first seasons bundled together for your convenience at a discount price than buying them separately, from that memorable moment that Rose meets the Doctor to when a familiar runaway bride falls through the TARDIS.
There aren't a lot of tech stuff specifically made for the geeky computer user, sadly enough. Thank goodness for this little gadget, which makes flash drives a whole lot more fun. When you connect or disconnect your device of choice into the TARDIS' front doors, a very familiar vworp vworp sound plays. You can have lots of innocent fun just plugging and unplugging portable things into it just to hear that sound and watch the light flash. Don't worry, though; it's not equipped to actually disappear into thin air.
Hold on, you might be thinking. What does a tweed jacket have to do with Doctor Who? Think a minute. Specifically about who we'll be seeing more of come 2010. That's right: Magnoli Clothers is a company offering a replica of the Eleventh Doctor's soon-to-be iconic tweed jacket, for those of us looking to cosplay the future Doctor a little early. It's detailed and exact and a perfect addition to any costumer's collection; they'll certainly be the envy of their fellow Whovians this season.
