The pokemon summer academy is a little more than half done, but there are still more challenges left. With Dawn, Brock, their friend Angie, and Ash as the leader on the red team, you would think that they have more than enough pokemon knowledge and experience to the best team. Sadly the red team is in last place, because it’s kind of hard to compete with Conway, the living pokedex as the leader of green team. Oddly enough, Team Rocket’s Jessie, or Jessilinda as she is known at the academy, is the leader of the green team. The next challenge is the water pokemon research, were the students had to research a water pokemon, the students could work alone or in groups and do a presentation on the pokemon they chose. Luckily for Ash and his friends as their projects were starting to fail a flash of light made Pikachu go in to daze. The Conway appeared and told the story of the lake monster that lure pokemon to it’s layer with a flash of light. The light was traced to a cave, and in the cave was no monster but it was Lumineon, a water pokemon that has fins that radiate a light known to attract pokemon. Ash and his friends decided to do their presentation to gather on the Lumineon.
Highlights
Not all of Ash’s adventure happen at the academy, one of his adventures happens in Canalave City. After Ash finishes his trip with Berry from Hearthome City he dashes to the Canalave Gym to get his next badge. Once Ash arrived at the the Gym he was greeted by a terrifying scream. Then a man came from the Gym, it turns out that the scream came from the man. Apparently there is a Darkrai that visits the town once a year and give the people of the town nightmares. There is also a Cresselia that wards off the Darkrai, but this year the Cresselia shows no sign of showing up. After a little investigation it turned out that Team Rocket and one of their machines are behind the nightmares. The machine did attract the Darkrai. Now the only hope for this town is if Ash can find the Cresselia.
Overall
These are nothing special, it just feels like the same as in past volumes. Now that isn’t a horrible thing, because it works, but it gets tedious. There is new elements, like the Darkrai showing up but there is also remakes of old plots like in one episode all of Ash’s and his pokemon get separated. One thing that was awesome was when Berry showed up, he is one of the new video game characters and it was nice seeing how well he was done in the anime. Even though this is nothing special, it’s still enyjoyable.
