Blu-ray Review: How The Grinch Stole Christmas

In Whoville they say, The Grinch’s Blu-Ray Collection grew two sizes that day…Universal Pictures & Director Ron Howard bring Dr. Seuss’s classic book to life with Jim Carrey leading an ensemble cast.

Every year around the 25th of December the residents of Whoville get ready to celebrate their favorite holiday and the Grinch who wishes it would just go away. The Grinch comes up with a plan to try to take Christmas away by taking all of the material symbols of the holidays, but in the end, learns the “True meaning of Christmas”.

Unlike the Animated classic, this movie breaks down two stories: the Grinch and his Love/Hate relationship with the yuletide season but also goes into Cindy-Lou Who and her search for the meaning of Christmas to her. Instead of just making her a footnote in the story as the animated version does, you find that both Cindy & the Grinch are on the same journey of self-discovery.

This film is a visual treat of both young and old. The sets, costumes, and whimsical nature of Ron Howard’s vision make for a new family classic.

The Blu-ray disc of “How The Grinch Store Christmas” also includes a copy of the film on DVD.

Extras on the Blu-ray include:
-Who School-Makeup application and design Seussian set decoration
-Spotlight On Location Documentary
-Music Video: Faith Hill “Where are you Christmas?”
-Commentary by Ron Howard
-DBOX Motion enabled
-Languages: English/ Spanish/ French
-Aspect Ratio: 1.85:1

Overall:
The transition to Blu-ray makes this visual heavy movie look that much brighter. The vivid images look stunning in 1080p. If you are a fan of the classic story then make sure you check out this new live action interpretation.

ComicsOnline gives The Grinch Who Stole Christmas 4 out of 5 classic Jim Carrey movies.
