Convention Coverage: Archon 33 Masquerade
Over the years the Masquerade has become a big event at many conventions, and Archon is no exception. It can also be argued that it is the focal point for many of these conventions. Nevertheless, Archon has become recognized as one of the top, if not the best, regional Masquerades around.
This year did not disappoint. The costumes were top notch and the skits were well thought out and performed. These relentless thespians rarely fail to deliver an enjoyable event. The costumer makers also show that they are devoted to the cause. I am ceaselessly amazed at the intricacy that goes into the outfits that come out to play.
This year the show stopper was easily the group that came out as 9. I was astounded that they were able to put these great costumes together in such a short time. There were also several others that were well created and made me laugh out loud.
A few years ago I was running late to the Masquerade and ended up having to watch in the overflow room. It was a lively group that made the experience more of an interactive viewing. It was like being at a scaled down version of Rocky Horror. The group really got into it and added another level to the experience. I know that it is not the same as being in the room, you only get a cheap imitation of the performances. The great part is that you are there with others who are simply in the room to have a good time and aren't worried about disturbing the contestants. It opens it up to a much more enjoyable experience and I have become a convert. I also don't have to stand in a long line for an hour or longer to get in.
Anyway, I was very happy with the event this year and would have to say that Archon Masquerade is by far a best in class if not a best in show. Thanks for another fun year.
