Manga Review: Chibi Vampire, Vol. 14

Chibi Vampire Vol. 14 is the last installment to the Chibi Vampire series.  Karin Maaka is not a  normal vampire.  Instead of taking blood from her victims, she gives them blood.  Kenta Usui is a human who has had a lot of depressing things happen in his life.  The two make an awkward couple, and there are plenty of things that are in their way for a successful relationship.

Highlights

Karin has been kidnapped by a rival vampire clan.  Apparently she is the "Psyche", and this rival clan has been taking the Psyche's blood for the last couple centuries.  Usui, Karin's brother Ren, and Karin's Father Henry come to the rescue (as does Karin's Grandmother later on).  Usui breaks into the enemy's lair and (with some help from a friend that's part of the enemy family) manages to get Karin outside in time for sun rise.

Meanwhile, Ren is keeping the enemy who was guarding Karin, well, occupied.  Henry is fighting the men of the enemy family, stalling them so that they all will die when the sun rises.  Luck has it that no-one dies and even a baby comes out of this adventure (yes, it's Ren's)!  As for Karin and Usui, well, they finally get the chance to have a peaceful relationship, until Karin's family decides to erase her memory of all vampires. Yet, even though Usui disapproves of this, he stays with Karin like he promised her family and they live peacefully in a small apartment together.

Overall

I was surprised to find out that this was the last volume of the series.  I have reviewed the animated series, so I already knew some things about the story.  The ending was quite different then the anime, which I thought was better.  It did end really abruptly , but there was enough "bonus" material about Karin's and Usui's future that made for a very filling dessert after a light meal.

There was a Manga preview for another series at the back.  It was for Deadman Wonderland, which I thought looked really cool, though it didn't seem to me that it would interest many of the readers of Chibi Vampire.

Anyways, the ending was a little week, but I loved it more then the anime overall.  There were different characters then there were in the anime, and I wish I would have gotten to know them better in previous volumes instead of trying to figure out who the heck they are by the last volume.  I like the series, and would recommend this to anyone over 14 who likes Comedy/Horror/Romances.  It's mostly a comedy, but there are cheesy romantic moments that are the icing on the cake for both the feel and the plot of this series.
