Bleach Vol. 28: Baron's Lecture Full-Course continues the Bleach saga with Ichigo Kurosaki, Uryû Ishida and Chad Sado finishing their first battle in Hueco Mundo ("Hollow World"). Now all they have to do is get to Las Noches ("The Nights").
Highlights
After defeating two Menos Grandes ("Less Great" Hollows), Ichigo and company continue on their journey to Las Noches. They head up a passage to end up in the middle of a white desert. Las Noches is right behind them, but still very far away. Pumped and ready for action, the trio makes a mad dash for the finish line…until they become exhausted. Las Noches doesn't seem to be getting any closer.
Meanwhile, inside Las Noches, Aizen has called all of the Espadas' (translates to "Swords") to a meeting regarding the "intruders". After a few rounds of taunting other Espadas, Aizen resolves the meeting, ordering them to not go after the intruders, and instead, wait for them to come to the Espadas.
Back to Ichigo, Chad, and Uryû. It seems that they have found some new friends, and some old ones. Three Arrancars who call themselves "brothers" and their pet, BawaBawa, are playing a little game of Endless Tag, when they scare Ichigo out of his wits. It is true friendship at first sight! Then, the group of seven gets attacked by the guardian of the white sand. The only problem is that his weakness is water, and none of the group members has water-based attacks. This is when Rukia and Renji save the day, and when they join the group.
Finally, they make it to Las Noches. They break through the wall and follow a dark path to a room of crossroads. All but the Arrancars decide to break up, and each one takes a different path. As for the Arrancars, well, one goes with Ichigo, and the other two decide to do the same, when they figure out which path Ichigo took.
Ichigo is now in the first section of Las Noches, Tres Cifras ("Three Numbers"), and has encountered his first Hollow.
Overall
I am an ENORME ("huge") Bleach fan. I've followed the manga series for several years now, and each volume is as exciting as the previous one. I also enjoy everything that Tite Kubo does. In Vol. 28, Tite Kubo mixes Spanish and Japanese, which I found really cool. Normally I hate having to read and speak spanish, but, I have to say, after reading this volume, I've got a new look at the language. Normally, the "twists" in each volume are a little obvious, but in this one, I didn't see most of them coming, in a pleasant way. There were five new characters concentrated on in this volume. A good job was done with the preview of their character. Even though none of them were the main focus of the volume, I felt like I got a good Idea of how they are going to be, which will make it easier to follow the story when it's their turn to be the focus.
Vol. 28 is my second favorite, so far. There is still a lot to come, and it's progressing at just the right pace and attitude. Overall, I'm still pleased at how Bleach is going, and I hope it continues to delight me with every volume. For those who are new to this series, you will need to start the beginning and continue in numerical order, so it will be a while before you reach this volume, but, when you do, you won't be disappointed. For those in touch with this series, you will be happy with this volume, and anxious for the next one!
