ComicsOnline Turns Nine

Hello again and welcome to the first day of ComicsOnline’s 10th year.

It was almost ten years ago that Comic City owner George Thrush first approached me to recreate his website, and what you see here is the third version since. We’ve gone through 3 owners, from George, to Karl, to me, and we’ve grown considerably since September 25th, 2000. We started the site using a content management system (dynamic website) software called PHPNuke, and while it was cutting edge at the time, it was full of security holes and we were hacked several times, causing the gaps in content you see when you look at the old site. Finally last year due to our old web host suddenly upgrading his software, we were forced to upgrade or die, and now we’re using a much more advanced and secure CMS software called Drupal.

Over the years we’ve grown a lot in content, in readership, and in staff.
ComicsOnline went in the past four years from just Terrence, Matt and me and occasionally Karl, to an active staff of 23 people and we’re still growing. Our readership is amazing and is still climbing every month. Our content we cover keeps growing as well, both in ways we cover things including the website, the podcast, MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter, and also in the breadth and depth of what we cover. We started with editorials and reviews of comic books and now cover movies, TV, anime and manga, games, events, and even a little bit of technology. We’ve met and interviewed people from all over the pop culture world and we just keep getting better all the time, and we couldn’t do it without you, our fans (and our wonderful industry contacts).

ComicsOnline continues to grow, but we want your input. What parts of the site do you enjoy most? Where can we improve? What personalities should we look to interview next? What ComicsOnline writer’s style do you enjoy most? What would you like to see added to the site? What is your favorite lineup of personalities on the podcast? Do you like the bigger or smaller groups on the podcast? What do you think of our tweets so far?

We look forward to your comments and suggestions. You can simply comment this story, or if you’d prefer you can always reach us at [email protected].

Best to you and yours and to the next nine years!
-Kevin Gaussoin and the entire ComicsOnline staff
