DVD Review: Fullmetal Alchemist: Premium OVA Collection

It's finally happened!  Fullmetal Alchemist has reappeared with it's Premium OVA Collection! This Premium collection contains four ACTION PACKED adventures: Interactive Experience, Live Action Featurette, Chibi Wrap Party, and the short "Kids"!

The ACTION PACKED adventure begins with the Interactive Experience.  You are a new recruit to the State Alchemist,  and today is your first day!  Colonel Roy Mustang is the one in charge of you and he "will debrief you on everything else you need to know."  It's finally time for you to enter Central Command.  Second Lieutenant Jean Havoc is the one who will be debriefing you, because Colonel Mustang is "well, busy".  You are debriefed on Alchemy, jobs involved in the State Alchemist, titles, Automail, why not to introduce your Girl Friend to Colonel Mustang, and what's going on right now.  All the while you just sit back and watch what happens, oh, and don't worry about not having a remote, you don't need it at all.  It's not that interactive, it's just clips from the anime put together to make a coherent plot.

Next in line is the LIVE ACTION FEATURETTE! Well, more like a statue of Alphonse being put in places around Japan, with a voice over.  Anyway, Alphonse in on a journey to find the truth about all that happened.  He looks all over Japan to find the Bones Studio, where the anime is created.   He finally makes it and then…well, I can't tell you can I?  You'll just have to watch for your self.

The Chibi Wrap party is for Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conquerer of Shamballa.  All of the cast from the movie and the anime are there, all in chibi form (which makes them look kinda like little kids).  They all enjoy the ending of a ton of hard work with drink and last words from the "actors".

Finally, last, but not least, is the short "Kids".  This is what I thought was the best part of the collection.  It's about three very young kids (that look a lot like Ed, Al, and Winry) who are searching for the home of their grandpa.  At first I didn't know what was going on, it was very serious while the other three videos are extremely comical.  But, by the end, I was wanting more.

Over all, I really enjoyed this collection.  There was only three things that it was lacking in. The Interactive Experience was kinda boring when in came to interaction, it would have been better off being "what a debriefing would be like," or something like that.  Then there is the over all shortness of the collection, in total it's 35 minutes.  When I finished watching it, I was quite surprised that it was over.  One thing they could have done to compensate for the shortness could be with Extras, which there wasn't really any.  Yes, original TV commercial, textless closing song, and trailers are Extras, but for this DVD, that's it.  There is no conceptual art, no character's bios, nothing exciting.  But, these are minor things.  I had a good time watching all there is, and it's a pleasant accessory for the FML series.
