Blu-ray Review: Little Miss Sunshine

“There’s two kinds of people in this world, there’s winners and there’s losers. Okay, you know what the difference is? Winners don’t give up. “

The Academy Award Nominated Film Little Miss Sunshine is now available to own on Blu-ray!

Story
The story features an extremely dysfunctional family comprised of a father (Richard) who is trying to pitch a success book, an overworked mother (Sheryl), a son who has taken a vow of silence until he enters flight school (Dwayne), a brother-in-law who has tried to kill himself (Frank), a druggie grandfather (Edwin), and a daughter (Olive) who has dreams and aspirations of winning a beauty pagaent. When their daughter receives an offer to compete in the State-Wide Little Miss Sunshine Pagaent the family reluctantly agrees to make a roadtrip from New Mexico to California in order to let their daughter have her dream. The family embarks in an old VW Microbus only to have it breakdown at the beginning of the trip. Now they must give the car a running start everytime in order to get it moving. Richard learns that he has lost the book deal and becomes distraught and as they drive away from a pitstop Frank realizes that they are missing a key member of the family…OLIVE! If that weren’t enough, tragedy strikes the family while they are staying at a motel and Edwin passes away in his sleep. Now the family must determine if they have the strength to continue on. Overall
This was one of those very unexpected surprises that blew audiences and critics away. The casting couldn’t have been more perfect for this film. Originally the role of Frank played by Steve Carell was written for Bill Murray or Robin Williams. Steve Carell won the role and I think filled it to perfection. I feel that either of those other actors would have been too over the top for the role and would have diminished what the directors were trying to accomplish. These characters are all facing difficult times in their lives and they all just really need a win more than anything. They take a chance to help one of their own do something positive in their lives and end up having their own successes in the process.
