Blu-ray Review: Death Race

Congratulations on joining the Death Race, where Terminal convicts get a chance to race for their very lives! If you can win (and survive) 5 races then you win your freedom. Don’t worry, you won’t be driving a regular race-car. You get to drive totally tricked out cars complete with bullet-proof windows, machine guns, napalm, spikes, and more! Oh and if you decide to compete in the Death Race you get your very own extremely hot navigator from a Women’s Prison! She will help you make your way through the course and avoid the other racers. Good luck!

Now you too can join in the excitement that is Death Race because it is available on Blu-ray and DVD! This movie was brought to you from the team of Director Paul W.S. Anderson and Producer Jeremy Bolt that made the 90’s thriller Event Horizon.

Jensen Ames (as played by Jason Statham) was just a hardworking guy trying to make a living when his wife was brutally murdered and he was blamed. After being incarcerated at Terminal Island, Jensen makes a deal with the corrupt Warden Hennessey (played by Joan Allen) and agrees to join the Death Race. Now, under the guise of the deceased racer known as Frankenstein, he must work with a team of inmates to win his freedom. He must also fight against the original Frankenstein’s murder, the intimidating Machine Gun Joe (played by Tyrese Gibson).

Overall
Death Race is a perfect example of what qualifies as a “B” movie. It may not have the best story, but it definitely had a lot of hot women, cool cars, and lots of explosions. What more could you want? The special features are cool and allow you to further explore the world of the movie. Jason Statham is fun to watch as Jensen Ames (a role that was originally slated for Tom Cruise) and Natalie Martinez is enjoyable to watch as Frankenstein’s navigator, Elizabeth Case.

ComicsOnline gives Paul W.S. Anderson’s Death Race 4.5 out of 5 tricked out cars.
