Gift Guides 2008: American Animation

Ah, the Holiday Shopping season is about to begin, and you’re wondering what you should get that animation fan of yours. Well, ComicsOnline.com has reviewed several excellent animated features this year, for viewers young and old. Here are our suggestions:

Wall E: The obvious choice for an animation fan, Pixar’s wonderful Sci-Fi Romance Adventure about a junk collecting robot who finds love and follows it into the stars is a very worthy gift. Another amazing piece of animation from the artistic geniuses at Pixar. ComicsOnline.com gave Wall-E five stars in our review, which you can find here.

Kung Fu Panda: Another obvious choice for American Animation, Kung Fu Panda is a solid martial arts comedy from Dreamworks, with great animation, beautiful artwork and some excellent action scenes. We gave Kung Fu Panda four out of five stars, and you can find our review here.

Shrek the Halls: If you’re looking for something with a more seasonal theme, the Shrek half hour Christmas Special is now on DVD. According to our review, this is a christmas classic special that holds its own against other christmas specials. We gave Shrek the Halls five out of five stars, and you can find our review, by kpm, here.

Sleeping Beauty: Platinum Edition: If your animation fan already has all the latest animated movies, or just likes older movies better, Disney recently released this classic in a very nice platinum edition. We liked it so much we reviewed this edition of Sleeping Beauty twice, here and our review by uzumaki here.

Looney Tunes: Golden Collection Volume 6: What if your animation fan is in the mood for something a little lighter. Not “animation” but cartoons. Well, Warner Brothers has an excellent series of releases of their Looney Tunes Cartoons. The Spotlight collection is smaller and generally more accessible, but real collectors should go for the Golden Collection, a more complete collection of classic Looney Tunes cartoons. You can find our five star review for the Golden Collection, written by Otaushi, here.

Bonus Item!
Enchanted: Ok, ok, it’s not REALLY animated, but parts of it are, and it exists as part tribute and part satire for the Disney Princess genre, so even if most of the game isn’t actually animated, the target audience has a pretty big overlap with animation fans. ComicsOnline gave Enchanted five stars when we reviewed it here.

That’s it for our American animation guide. Have a fun and safe Black Friday.
