It is officially offical, the X verse has cast their Gambit. X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner has confirmed that Channing Tatum will be playing the role of the roguish thief, confirming the rumors that had been floating around the internet that he was indeed in talks for the role.

For those of you perhaps hoping this is just more grist for the rumor-mill Lauren Shuler Donner lays it out explicitly.

It is Channing, yes. Yes… Well, you know, he’s a rogue, Channing, he’s a rascal just like Remy LeBeau. And he can handle the action, we all know that. And he’s got a really good heart, I know him personally, I did [She’s The Man] with him. So I think he’ll be great as Gambit. And he’s a southerner too, he’s not from New Orleans but he is a southerner and he understands that world. You know Gambit loves New Orleans.

So there you have it, Channing Tatum has joined the X-men. Where and when he will be showing up is still a mystery though smart money is on X-Men: Apocalypse with a possible stand alone movie as Donner and producer Simon Kinberg have talked about a potential Gambit spinoff.
