WonderCon 2011: Green Lantern Movie Panel

Ryan “Mr. Hottie” Reynolds at the Green Lantern Panel (nickname provided by a screaming fan).

WonderCon attendees were treated to a special preview footage from the upcoming Green Lantern feature film.

Footage included:
-Abin Sur fight- Giving a brief look at Abin Sur and the events that would ultimately lead to his crash on Earth.

-Hal Jordan learning to use his Power Battery- Hal is told to recite the oath (which he points out that “everybody knows” and proceeds to string together a hilarious oath.
-Hal flying to OA- Hal flies past a couple of astronauts and lands on OA and is met by Tomar Re.

-Sinestro addresses the Corps- The entity known as Parallax has attacked the Corps and several members have died. Sinestro rallies the Lanterns to strike back against this new menace.

Geoff Johns at the Green Lantern movie panel

-When a fan asked about playing which hero he enjoyed playing more, he responded, “Deadpool is not a hero…he’s an asshole”. He also remarked that when and if Deadpool is made into his own movie it “would be done right…hard “R” rating.”

-Day one on GL: Ryan was 120 feet in the air doing flying stunts.

-Motion capture suits in New Orleans in August are not fun (extremely hot).

-Blake Lively went back and forth between Gossip Girl set and Green Lantern set (leaving GG at 1am to get to GL by 6a.) She also brings brownies to the set. Ryan was not happy since he couldn’t eat them due to his diet for the movie.

-Blake said that she wants the Star Sapphire costume to have more material if they did do that in a future installment…but the crowd (and Ryan) severely disapproved of that comment.

-Blake was determined to be a brunette for the film, because her bodyguard (who never really talked in much detail before) insisted that if she was playing Carol, she had to be brunette or else her life would be in danger (from raging fans).

-A fan asked about how much of Ryan’s lines were adlibbed, and Ryan responded that they made sure to maintain the integrity of the character of Hal Jordan and didn’t just throw in one-liners just because they could. He did state that you do need to have some humor but it would make sense with Jordan. (Geoff Johns did add that he enjoyed Ryan’s improvisation).

-Fan question to Ryan: Who would you like to see as The Flash? Bradley Cooper.

-Johns said that maybe they could have Ryan do both GL and Flash and have them team up (jokingly). Ryan was not too thrilled about the double duty idea.
