The story is about a call center girl in India (that does an amazing American accent) who has a client that she kind of falls for over the phone. She does not tell him she's in India, instead she says she's in San Francisco. He ends up going to San Francisco for business and asks if he can meet up with her. She accepts, goes there, wimps out and meets him accidentally after deciding to go home without seeing him. They hit it off and it's lovely and then, of course, it all falls apart because he finds out she was lying.
Her family came looking for her in the US and it's the same hilariously embarrassing encounters of the worst kind just like you'd expect. All the little side humor that you expect much like that in movies like My Big Fat Greek Wedding. There are some things that cross all racial barriers, family you'd like to hide in the closet being at the top of the list.
Highlights
There are so many wonderful moments in this movie, each time Granger’s soon to be married friend proves himself to be the opposite of him. Then, during his best man speech he realizes that is what he wants exactly what he’s up there talking about and runs after Priya. The scenes in which Priya’s father gets a chance to show his gumption would make a person want to call their own parent and apologize for putting up with them and the growing pains that are parenthood.
The cultural differences between the US and India are touched on, her arranged marriage and how that plays into it is not as obnoxious as one would think and you don’t even resent the parents for choosing to do it for her.
Special Features
The Other End of the Line DVD will be authored on dual layered disc in widescreen (1.85:1) format with English 5.1 Dolby Surround sound.
Overall
Originally I thought this would mainly be a chick flick that the hubby would only just tolerate. Fortunately I was wrong, it’s a spectacular and delightful flick with so many variations that anyone of any age can appreciate it. The scenery of both India and San Francisco is spectacular and it really gives you a feel for living in both places.
ComicsOnline gives The Other End of the Line 5 stars for a wonderful movie that can be completely appreciated by anyone!
