DVD Review: Star Wars- The Clone Wars: A Galaxy Divided

No one could have predicted that Star Wars-The Clone Wars would actually turn out to be a good series. After horrible reviews of the pilot episode/movie most people just thought that there was nothing that could be done to make this series likable/watchable. It turns out that this series is actually quite fun and captures some of what made the original trilogy worth watching. The newest installment called A Galaxy Divided is now available on DVD.

Highlights
This series is set between the second and third movies and fills in the gaps about the actual battles that took place during the Clone Wars and shows a more detailed account of what happened during the war. Anakin actually takes on a large amount of character development in the first few episodes and is a lot more fluid than Hayden's portrayal on screen. Even Anakin's Padawan, Ashoka, has been toned back and is less annoying and can even be quite enjoyable…(believe me, I am as surprised as the rest of you that I just wrote that). Asajj Ventres, Count Dooku's apprentice and newest addition to the Star Wars rogues gallery, provides a much needed rival and energy to the series. There is also a lot more of our favorite 4 armed Sith, General Grievous. Additionally, Tom Kane (who also plays Magneto on Wolverine and The X-Men) provides the voice for Yoda and continues to make the character extremely entertaining to follow.

Episodes:
This release contains the first 4 episodes of the series:
-"Ambush"
-"Rising Malevolence"
-"Shadow of Malevolence"
-"Destroy Malevolence"

The first episode is more of a stand alone, while the three remaining episodes tie in to each other quite nicely.

Overall
This release demonstrates the potential for the series and makes good use of the existing characters. There are no special features on the release (probably since there will be a complete season release later on). If you haven't seen these episodes and can't wait for the season box set then this release is for you.

ComicsOnline gives Star Wars-The Clone Wars: A Galaxy Divided 3 out of 5 Star Wars spin-off series.
