Blu-ray Review: Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist

“Also that mix CD… uh that I left on your doorstep was the last one that I’ll be making for you. More or less… “

The hit 2008 film Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist is now available on Blu-ray! The film is based on the book by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan.

Story
Nick (Michael Cera) is trying to move on with his life after his girlfriend Tris (Alexis Dziena) suddenly breaks up with him. In order to break him out of the depressed mood, his band-mates (called the Jerk-Off’s) convince him to go play a gig and then they can go try and find the elusive band “Where’s Fluffy”. Meanwhile, Norah (Kat Dennings) and her friend Caroline (Ari Graynor) are dealing with Tris, who has discarded the many cd mixes that Nick has made for her. Norah quickly recovers the mixes and beings to listen to them realizing that they are quite good. Norah ends up at the same club where Nick and his band are performing and the two meet. Norah has to deal with Tris at the show and she claims that she’s meeting her new boyfriend and convinces Nick to play the role. Neither Nick nor Norah knew that everyone knew each other so it provided an awkward moment to say the least. Norah and Nick begin hanging out and come to the realization that they both love “Where’s Fluffy” and they set out to find the band. There are many glitches along the way (running into ex-boyfriends, people getting drunk and then taking off, ill-timed comments) but the two have an excellent adventure. I don’t want to give too much more away because this movie was a lot of fun and it really is worth watching.

Overall
Nick and Norah’s was a really enjoyable movie. I made a point to go see this film on opening night as it just looked different than most films being released today. Sure it had a bit of school drama, but there was definitely a different tone to the whole film. Michael Cera (as always) was entertaining to watch and Kat Dennings was a pleasant surprise. The music that was chosen was a perfect fit for the film and really helped with the pacing. If you are looking for a good movie I highly recommend this one.
