Blu-ray Review: The Truman Show

“In case I don’t see you: Good afternoon, good evening and good night!”

Sometimes we often wonder if we are being watched. Maybe we just exist for someone’s amusement. Well Truman Burbank sure knows how that feels too, but the truth is he actually is being watched! Since Truman was born his life has been televised and broadcasted all over the world. But what happens when he begins to realize that people are acting strangely around him? You can find out now because the hit 90’s film The Truman Show is now available to own on Blu-ray!

The film features Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) as the lovable guy who doesn’t know he is being watched. Truman goes about his daily routine while dreaming of venturing out into the world beyond his home of Seahaven. We learn that Seahaven is essentially a city in a bubble (now the largest structure on Earth that can be seen from Space), with every single aspect of the town and its people being controlled by the Director from above known as Christof. From his base of operations Christof has managed Truman’s life, watching and helping him to become the person that he is now. After some strange occurrences and sudden re-appearances, Truman starts to realize that something is abnormal then other puzzle pieces start to fall into place. Christof tries to implement various measures to keep Truman from learning the truth for fear that he might leave or go crazy (thus ending the program aswell).

Overall
Jim Carrey gives one of his best performances as Truman. He is a normal, down-to-Earth guy who is just goofy and lovable. As always Carrey is extremely entertaining to watch but this time he connects to his audience as opposed to being the comic relief for the entire movie. There are several points in the film where you feel for this character who has been manipulated all his life and you want him to learn the truth and be reunited with his lost love.

ComicsOnline gives The Truman Show 5 out of 5 good reasons to watch.
