DVD Review: The Polar Express presented in 3-D

This is the 3-D version of what I believe is one of most magical Christmas movies of all time. The digital effects alone are amazing (the film uses live motion capture technology), and the story is good enough to re-kindle the spirit of Christmas in even the most cynical adult.

The Polar Express is the story of our hero boy, a boy who has outgrown believing in Santa Claus, but is magically taken aboard a steam locomotive en route to the North Pole. He is joined by other kids who all have something to learn from this thrilling journey to the North Pole meet Santa Claus and witness the ceremonial giving of the first gift of Christmas. There are several memorable characters on the train including The Conductor (Tom Hanks), the hero girl, a know-it-all kid, a guardian train spirit/hobo, and two hillbilly engineers, to name a few.

There are some great songs throughout the adventure including “Hot Chocolate” and “When Christmas Comes to Town”. This is a great movie for the whole family that I highly recommend.

There is not very much as far as special features in this version. The second DVD contains the original 2-D version which is just as much fun to watch. 4 pair of 3-D glasses are included.

ComicsOnline gives The Polar Express on DVD in 3D 4 out of 5 faiths renewed.
