Blu-ray & DVD Review: Hellboy II: The Golden Army

We’ve got Blu-ray and DVD versions of this monstrous new release to review side-by-side. First: let’s see what they have in common…

The Feature
When the world as we know it is under attack by monsters…who you gonna call? HELLBOY! Hellboy II: The Golden Army is now available on DVD and Blu-ray! Hellboy II is brought to you from the director of the award winning film Pan’s Labyrinth and the hit movie…Hellboy! (bet you didn’t see that coming).

For years the US Government has been tracking and stopping creatures from taking the lives of normal humans. In order to save humanity they have assembled the best: The B.P.R.D. (The Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense). The team consists of Hellboy (demon), Abe Sapien (water breather), and Liz (a pyrokinetic). Together these three are the last line of defense against the mystic and unknown.

The film begins with a Young Hellboy hearing a bedtime story from his father, Professor Bruttenholm. The story involved an ancient race at war with the humans. In order to stop the humans, the King of the Elves orders a unstoppable mechanical army is created. Peace is decreed and life moves on…until NOW.

Prince Nuada of the Elves disagrees with his father’s decision to make peace with the humans and sets out to destroy the surface world. Now the BPRD must rush to stop Nuada from gaining control of the ancient army before its too late.

After revealing himself to the world, Hellboy comes to the realization that things wont ever be the same again. The team is now aided by a new government agent, Dr. Johann Krauss (played by Family Guy‘s Seth MacFarlane!) as well as Prince Nuada’s twin sister, Princess Nuala.
